We are equipped for hand-built or wheel-thrown pottery
Studios are available during open hours except for times when there are scheduled pottery classes. On those evenings, the studio closes 1 hour before class starts, so the instructor and staff have time to prep the space. You can check out the Studio Availability Calendar at the bottom of the Open Studios page for daily availability. This schedule is subject to change without notice. Feel free to give us a call at 515-294-0970 during open hours if you want to confirm studio hours for that day.

We have a shared space, so please do your part in cleaning up tools and surfaces and putting things away for the next potter.
The Workspace closes at 9pm therefore the clay studio also closes at 9pm. All cleanup must be completed by 9pm. If there are issues with leaving a mess and/or leaving on time, the Workspace Manager will reach out to you. If this is an ongoing issue, we won't allow continued use of the studio. We really don't want that to happen, so please ask our friendly student staff any questions, or email workspace@iastate.edu.
The Fine Print
Studios are open to ages 18+. Only Workspace clay and glazes may be used in our studios and fired in our kilns. For the safety of you and our equipment, this is non-negotiable.
Studios are cleaned between semesters. The firing schedule will note the last bisque and last glaze firing. Toward the end of each semester, dates for pickup and instructions for how to handle ongoing projects will be posted in the clay studio. Abandoned pottery will be recycled or repurposed.
