Don't Forget About ClubFest!

Today, 11am-4pm, Central Campus

If your student club/org is registered for ClubFest, be sure to check in after 9:30am in the check-in/information tent before setting up. If your org is not pre-registered, please note that you may not hand out information on central campus during the event. 

 
Co-Sponsor ISU AfterDark

Are you interested in partnering with an organization that provides students with fun and exciting late-night activities? Check out ISU AfterDark!

Upcoming dates: October 7 & November 4

For each of these events, we need co-sponsors to host different activities for the AfterDark attendees. These activities have included trivia, dancing, crafts, carnival games and Henna tattoos. You can be as creative as you would like, and we will pay up to 100% of the cost of your supplies. Plus, this is great exposure to over 2,000 students and helpful in recruiting new members to your org! To co-sponsor an activity, please visit afterdark.iastate.edu and complete a Proposal Form.

Take Advantage of ACVB Grant Funding! 

Are you hosting an event or activity open to the general public? If so, the Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) Community Grant Program is here to help! The ACVB offers funds to public and private orgs who strive to create a positive perception of Ames and improve the quality of life for community members. 

If you meet the requirements, this may be the perfect opportunity for your student club/org to get the funding you need!

The 2017 deadline is Wednesday, October 12 at noon. Visit the ACVB website for additional information and to download the grant application.

Student Government is Hiring for Multiple Positions

It's your chance to get involved with the Student Government! There are a number of open positions on the senate committees and with the Legislative Ambassadors. Open positions include:

Senate Vacancies: Campustown (1), Engineering (1), Frederickson Court (1), Graduate College (3), Human Sciences (1), Panhellenic (1), and VetMed (1) 

At-Large Committee Applications: Finance Committee, Public Relations Committee, University Affairs Committee, and ISU Legislative Ambassadors

Go on an Alternative Spring Break Trip!

If you're an enthusiastic student who is committed to volunteerism and service, and who is looking for a way to give back to the community during spring break, then you should apply to go on a Spring 2017 Alternative Breaks trip. This adventure calls for someone who is excited about devoting a week to service, having a great time and forming lasting memories! 

Winter Trip Applications are due by Friday, September 23rd.

Spring Trip Applications are due by Friday, October 21st.

Broadcast Your Orgs PSA on KURE

Does your org have a PSA you want broadcasted? Kure is the place for you! The process is easy. Just send a copy of your script or press release.

New Food and Beverage Guidelines Set for University Classrooms 

Attention ISU departments and student orgs! New guidelines regarding the use of food and nonalcoholic beverages in university classrooms have been set. You may now bring in both food and drink to meetings and events, which will help recruit members and ultimately get more students get involved at ISU. The new guidelines apply to the 214 classrooms and auditoriums coordinated centrally by the room scheduling office. Guidelines are not applied to spaces scheduled by colleges and departments or rooms in the Memorial Union.

If you plan to use food and/or beverages at an organization event, please follow the pre-planning and post-event cleanup requirements: For non-class events, complete a room request form stating the type of food and beverage you plan to have; for class-related requests, a 48-hour advance notice needs to be emailed to roomscheduling@iastate.edu; and be sure to clean up the room after the event, including trash removal. A cleaning fee will be assessed to the organization or department if a room is not returned to its pre-event status or if food-related damage occurs.

Jumpstart Your Creativity! 

Boosting your audience, membership and programming is a win-win, but coming up with novel approaches and well-designed presentations takes work! Artist and educator dynamic duo, Sara Merritt & Letitia Kenemer, will show you how to functionally tap into a variety of creative resources that will keep good ideas flowing and drive great ideas forward. After the Jumpstart Your Creativity event, you will leave with tangible, usable resources that will benefit everyone from your board and staff to your volunteers and audience. Free of charge, the event is Tuesday, October 4 at 8pm in the Multicultural Center. Don't miss it!

Event Authorization Reminder

If your org is planning an event that includes guests, members of other orgs, is open to the Iowa State Community or individuals from other universities, you need to have your even authorized. You can review the event authorization system training in the student org database. Once you pass the quiz, email eventauthorization@iastate.edu to be added to the system. Fill out an Online Event Authorization Form and submit it online at least ten class days prior to the date of the event. Your event may require more time to be authorized depending on the details of your program, so please start this process as soon as you begin planning.

Register Your Club for a Free Entry to the University Homecoming Parade

Show your ISU pride and kick off Homecoming Week by taking part in the parade! Recognized Student Orgs can submit an entry free of charge. Traditional floats, decorated vehicles or walking entries are all encouraged. 

The parade will take place on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. on Main Street. Registration open nowQuestions? Email the parade committee!

Host Your Retreat at the Lynn Fuhrer Lodge

Looking for a unique place to host your club's all-day retreats or long meetings? The Lynn Fuhrer Lodge is set in the woods and has recently been renovated! Amenities include: projector, WiFi, fridge, microwave and kitchen sink, AC and bathrooms, and is set up like a large meeting room with 7 rolling tables and 42 chairs. There's no cost to student orgs as long as guidelines are observed. Reservations can be made online and must be a minimum of three hours long. You should definitely check this place out!

Apply to be a 2016 Cyclone Aide!

What is a Cyclone Aide, you ask? Cyclone Aides are undergraduate student leaders who are employed to facilitate Orientation and Destination Iowa State throughout the year. As an Aide, you would serve as a leader by providing new students with an introduction to campus and its resources, provide campus and residence hall tours, prepare students for academic advising appointments, serve on information panels, and share information about Iowa State with new students and their family members. Cyclone Aides coordinate the Destination Iowa State program by helping with the selection and supervision of Team Leaders, planning activities and implementing the event. Additionally, Cyclone Aides assist with campus visits and student recruitment throughout the year, and serve as an integral part of the Office of New Student Programs.
