Build Your Leadership Skills!
Do you want to build up your leadership skills from the inside out? The Leaders Workshop Series is a series of four sessions throughout the month of October, each specializing in a different aspect of leadership. These sessions are for the advancement of professional development of any and all levels of leaders. This series will assist you in boosting your leadership skills, building community, and empowering others to take the lead.

Go on an Alternative Breaks Trip!
If you're someone who is excited to devote a week of your college life to service, having a great time, and forming lasting memories, then you're the perfect person to go on an Alternative Breaks trip!
Applications for both winter and spring break trips are currently open! With trips going all across the country to perform community service, Alternative Breaks are a great way to learn what it means to be an active and caring citizen. Enthusiatic students who are committed to volunteerism and service should apply now.

Your CCT can include: Campus involvement, community service, honors & awards, internships & study abroad, leadership experience, on-campus employment, publications, recreational activities, research, seminars & workshops, and student org involvement.

Submit a Proposal to the Event Funding Board
Is your student organization is looking for some additional funds to make your upcoming event even better? Submit an event proposal to the Event Funding Board! The Student Organization Event Funding Board offers recognized student organizations an opportunity to receive funds for events throughout the academic year (fall and spring semesters only). The ultimate goal of this program is to aid student organizations in creating diverse and inclusive events that will contribute to Iowa State’s vibrant community. Student organizations can now apply for funds each month for events that are at least 6 weeks out from the monthly deadline!

Take Advantage of the Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau Grants
Are you hosting an event or activity open to the general public? If so, the Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) Community Grant Program is here to help! The ACVB offers funds to public and private orgs who strive to create a positive perception of Ames and improve the quality of life for community members.
If you meet the requirements, this may be the perfect opportunity for your student club/org to get the funding you need!
The 2018 deadline is Wednesday, October 11 at noon. Grants will be awarded to events occurring from December 2017 to December 2018. Visit the ACVB website for additional information and to download the grant application.
Tabling Opportunity at National Campus Sustainability Day
Student organizations are invited to join The Green Umbrella and Live Green! to celebrate National Campus Sustainability Day on Thursday, October 26, from 11am-2pm on the South Library Lawn. The theme for this year is "Make Waves" in celebration of all that the Iowa State community does to encourage sustainability.
Student organizations that are focused on economic, social, and/or environmental sustainability are encouraged to participate and host a table at the event. To request a table, contact Heidi Kalb (kalbh@iastate.edu) and Paige Myers (pmyers@iastate.edu).
Fundraising Opportunity with CyBowl & Billiards
The CyBowl Giveback Program is an exciting, new way to fundraise and promote your organization! Held in CyBowl & Billiards, this fundraiser will give your student org 25 percent of the revenue earned from bowling, shoe rental or billiards from any guest that presents the giveback invitation/flyer. Giveback events are held 12pm - close on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday based on the orgs preference and the availability of CyBowl & Billiards.
Your Giveback Reservation Request should be submitted a minimum of ten class days prior to the date of the event. You should definitely learn more about this program!

Apply to be on the ISU AfterDark Exec Board
ISU AfterDark is looking for committed, motivated, outgoing students to serve on the executive board. AfterDark plans three events per semester that are free for ISU students and their guests. Events include bingo, entertainment, food, crafts, bowling and billiards, and many more activities! Applications for these positions are due Sunday, October 22. New "Let's Talk" Program by Student Counseling Service
Student Counseling Service is offering a program to support students and student organization officers by increasing access/understanding of counseling services. This walk-in consultation program, called Let’s Talk, has been developed in collaboration with the Multicultural Student Affairs office and the International Students and Scholars office. The goals of Let’s Talk are for students to be able to:

Explore what it is like to talk to a counselor

Gain a counseling perspective, even if they are not interested in ongoing counseling

Get support for a specific problem (e.g., academic stress, depression, relationship conflicts)

Obtain help or information for a friend they are concerned about
-
Obtain referral to other resources on campus
This service is confidential, except for reports of harm to self or others, and students may remain anonymous if they prefer. Students may utilize this service in the Memorial Union Multicultural Center, Reflection Room #1, without an appointment. Student Counseling office hours are:

Student Conduct: "Know the Code" for Student Organizations and Officers
The Office of Student Conduct has been working hard this summer on preparing educational materials for students, student org officers, staff and faculty related to the disciplinary regulations. We are pleased to announce that we have developed a website that is filled with resources (infographics, pamphlets, videos, etc.) that are intended to assist students in understanding the universities’ expectations of their behavior. http://knowthecode.dso.iastate.edu/
Additionally, a video has been made available that explains the sexual misconduct policy, ways to report, and the university process. Student Conduct asks all student org officers to view this video and share it with your members (http://knowthecode.dso.iastate.edu/resources/sexual-misconduct).

"What About Me? My Wellbeing" Workshops
Student Wellness is offering an exciting opportunity that will help student organization officers start their journey to better wellbeing through the "What About Me? My Wellbeing" program.
Students will learn how to build strong relationships, manage their money, and enjoy good health.
Sessions are on Tuesdays from 4:00-4:45 pm. Upcoming workshop dates are September 26, October 3, and October 10. Call 515-294-1099 or email studentwellness@iastate.edu to register.
Apply to be a Peer Wellness Educator for 2018-2019
A Peer Wellness Educator is a PAID, leadership position in Student Wellness. Peer Wellness Educators work with students through outreach, education, and advocacy to enhance wellbeing and student success. Peer Wellness Educators facilitate workshops to student groups, plan and implement wellness events and programs, create and promote wellness messages/campaigns to other students, and work on strategies that address the culture and environment at ISU regarding health, wellness, and safety.
Peer Wellness Educators make $10/hr and work a flexible schedule of 5-10 hours a week.
Student Wellness is looking for Peer Wellness Educators that reflect our campus student population and are looking for students from all academic backgrounds.
Qualifications to be a Peer Wellness Educator:

Enroll in and satisfactorily pass U ST 316X: Leadership in Peer Education course (Spring 2018)

Meet a minimum 2.5 grade point average
-
Work a minimum of 6 hours per week (maximum of 10 hours per week) – these are flexible hours and allows students to have another job or internship if desired.

Serve at least one full academic year (August 2018 – May 2019) in the position.

Must complete application and submit with resume by October 12, 2017 at 11:59PM.

Share Your Adventure at Iowa State...Become a Cyclone Aide
Do you want to get more involved at Iowa State, gain quality leadership experience, and get paid for it? Apply to be a Cyclone Aide! This leadership position is a fantastic way to show your Cyclone pride to new students, be part of a team, develop leadership skills, and improve public speaking. Each Cyclone Aide is responsible for representing their academic college at New Student Orientation, giving tours of central campus, and providing excellent customer service to new students and their families. The time commitment for this position is a one year contract from January 2018-January 2019, including a Spring 2018 course for training in the position.
