Security Notice: Fraudulent Emails Targeting Student Organizations

A report was made recently to Iowa State's IT Security office regarding emails that a student organization treasurer had received. The fraudulent emails appeared to come from the president of the organization and asked the treasurer to complete a cash transaction involving a substantial amount of money. After it was determined the emails weren't actually coming from the president, the incident was reported to the IT Security office. Student organization officers are strongly encouraged to be on the lookout for suspicious emails of this nature and report them to IT Security at abuse@iastate.edu as soon as possible.
