Register for Social Justice Summit Today!

The Social Justice Summit, now in its twelfth year, is an event designed for ISU students to develop advocates and activists for addressing global injustice. This day-long workshop will give you the chance to learn more about yourself, engage in discussion with other students on various issues, and create strategies for implementing social change!

The 2023 Social Justice Summit: Everyday Tools for Social Justice will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023. This conference will feature three different types of breakout sessions:

"Me" sessions will focus on equipping students with tools and knowledge on where they are in their own social justice journey.

"We" sessions will focus on social justice as it relates to community.

"Us" sessions focus on all participants of the conference and their learning together.

*Registration is free and open to Iowa State University students only. Includes a free lunch.

Prep Week/Finals Week Exception Process for Student Org Meetings/Events

Per the Prep Week and Finals Week Resolution from the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost, student organizations may not hold any meetings, functions, or sponsored events during the Prep Week and Finals Week period without seeking an exception in advance. To seek an exception, student organizations should submit their regular meetings or events that occur during that time to the University Event Authorization for review.

Questions regarding the Prep Week and Finals Week Exception process can be directed to stuorgs@iastate.edu.

Is Your Organization Using Google Drive? Changes Happening Soon

On January 3, 2023, Iowa State University plans to implement a new 3 GB storge quota, per person, in Google Drive. This change is required due to recent changes by Google. This is not a choice made, or desired, by Iowa State University.

To prepare for the upcoming change, it is recommended that everyone move their data from Google Drive to either CyBox or Microsoft OneDrive.

If you are interested in moving your files to OneDrive, you can request that IT staff do a managed migration for you; request this service here Request Managed Migration to OneDrive - Information Technology. If you are interested in moving your files to CyBox, unfortunately there is no migration tool, and you have to move the content yourself; Google Takeout is a good service to help download the content in bulk and then the files can be uploaded into CyBox.

If your student organization is using a shared folder created by a member of the organization (past or present), it is critically important to remove your data from Google. This process has been identified as a serious risk for accidental data deletion. In Google, data follows the creator, even in a shared folder. This means anything created by a person, even in a shared folder, is deleted when the account is deleted, like when someone graduates from Iowa State and their files are deleted because they are no longer a student. Unfortunately, there are no tools to help download these shared folders and the only method is to download the files manually through Google Drive and then re-upload the files to either CyBox or OneDrive.

If you have any questions or need help, please reach out and we would be happy to talk more. You can reach us at storage@iastate.edu.

Event Authorization Reminders

As a reminder, if you are planning an event that you want to promote to non-club members or the general public, you will need to complete the University Event Authorization process. You can find more information on Event Authorization HERE and in the University Event Authorization training available in the Student Organization Database.

Preserve Your Organization's History with University Archives

Student organizations play an important role in college life and have a lasting impact on the University. Because of the nature of being a student sees you leave after graduating, much of the history of an organization can be lost or forgotten over time. The Iowa State University Archives invites student organizations to partner with us to help preserve your organization’s history, including especially its creation, development, priorities, and activities.

We value the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. All organizations are welcome and part of the ISU legacy. We particularly welcome organizations of minoritized groups and activists who have often been left out, erased, or otherwise lack a sense of belonging in archives.

For more information on how to participate, please contact Greg Bailey, University Archivist, at gtbailey@iastate.edu
